Comics Submissions - Museum as Muse

Launched in 2016, The Arkansas International has published fiction, poetry, nonfiction, comics, and works in translation from over 60 countries.

Founded in Fayetteville, Arkansas in 2016, the Arkansas International publishes transnational literature, bringing writers from around the world into conversation with each other. We value work that challenges limiting ideas of what defines “world” vs “regional” literature, and we support marginalized writers whose work complicates assumptions. We support fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, translation, and graphic storytelling, as well as featuring visual art.

In addition to the magazine, we regularly review new books online that speak to this concern, as well as feature literary interviews with writers who explore it in their work.
We also offer two annual awards: The Henry Dumas Prize for Fiction and The C.D. Wright Prize for Poetry, both named for innovative Arkansan writers who wrote about place in transformational ways. The awards—for a short story or a group of poems— are granted to English language writers from any nation who have not yet published a full-length book and include a $1,000 prize and publication

An independent, non-profit, student-led forum promoting contemporary literature and connecting Pakistani writers to global publishers through rigorous mentorship and submission pathways - pioneering global creative writing trends.

Pakistan Creative Writing Forum is a distinguished, independent non-profit organization dedicated to pioneering and elevating contemporary literature within Pakistan and on the global stage. Established in 2025 by author and Michael Round Prize winner Hashmi-al-Haseeb, the Forum addresses a critical institutional gap: bridging the lack of formal MFA programs in Creative Writing across Pakistani universities by providing mentorship, rigorous editorial guidance, and direct submission pathways to international markets. PCWF serves as a national hub and global launchpad for emerging Pakistani writers. Within its inaugural years, the Forum's collective of writers, students, and fellows achieved over 30 international literary journal publications, five academic research papers, and more than 100 championship titles across All Pakistan Literary Competitions at leading national institutions (including UET, UAF, UMT, UOG, TUF, NUML, CMH, KE, FMH, and FJMU). On the international stage, PCWF writers have built an unprecedented footprint for South Asian contemporary letters. Works nurtured within the organization regularly appear in elite global publications including Scrivener Creative Review, Aster Lit, The Hemlock Journal, The Wise Owl, Nomadology Review, Andromeda Magazine, Pandemonium Journal, Under the Bashō, Heliosparrow Poetry Journal, Limacine Magazine, Silk and Ink Magazine, and Rabble Review, alongside honours from Bangor University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, and Queen Mary University of London. Notably, the Forum is home to the only Pakistani writer longlisted for the 2026 Commonwealth Short Story Prize. Guided by a commitment to literary craft, pluralistic dialogue, and artistic excellence, the Pakistan Creative Writing Forum exists to sustain an enduring ecosystem for the written word, nurturing raw talent into internationally recognized voices.

William Gay Memorial Prize in Fiction

A home for Southern literature and the writers shaping it today. We publish work that is rooted in place, alive with character, and hard to forget.

We believe Southern literature is at its best when it resists easy definitions. The South is a place of deep contradictions, where beauty and violence, tradition and change, humor and grief, belonging and alienation exist side by side. We want to publish writers who are willing to explore those contradictions honestly, whether their work is set in a small town, a growing city, a family kitchen, or somewhere far beyond the familiar boundaries of the region. We are interested in work that feels lived-in and particular, writing with a strong sense of place, memorable characters, and a voice that could come from nowhere else. At the same time, we believe Southern literature should never be confined by geography. The best stories carry something beyond their setting: they illuminate the human experiences that connect us all. Porchlight seeks to create a welcoming home for both familiar and emerging voices, with an emphasis on work that challenges assumptions, rewards close reading, and stays with the reader long after the final page. Like the porch light itself, we want to offer an invitation: come in, stay awhile, and tell us a story.

Porchlight: A Journal of Southern Literature

Porchlight seeks creative nonfiction that brings the lived world to the page with candor, curiosity, and a willingness to sit with difficult questions. We are interested in personal essays, memoir, and literary nonfiction that move beyond the recounting of events to discover what those experiences mean, what they leave unresolved, and what they reveal about the people who live them. We value writers who can make the personal illuminating without forcing a lesson, who approach memory with honesty, and who understand that the truth of a life is rarely simple or complete. We welcome work that examines family, work, class, faith, loss, identity, and the complicated ties between people and the places they call home. We are equally interested in the overlooked details of an ordinary day and the experiences that alter a life beyond recognition. Above all, we look for nonfiction shaped by a clear artistic vision, one that trusts the reader, embraces complexity, and finds meaning without pretending to have every answer. Bring us the story you have struggled to understand, the memory that refuses to settle, or the truth that only writing it down has allowed you to see.

Short Nonfiction

Porchlight welcomes poetry that speaks with a distinct voice, an unflinching eye, and a deep connection to the lived experience of the South. We are drawn to poems that find meaning in ordinary lives, familiar landscapes, family histories, hard truths, and the contradictions that shape who we are. We value work that is emotionally honest, attentive to language, and willing to take risks, whether through form, imagery, narrative, or unexpected turns of thought. We have a particular appreciation for poems that feel rooted in a specific place while reaching toward something universal, exploring the tensions between memory and change, belonging and isolation, beauty and hardship. We are not looking for easy nostalgia or familiar Southern stereotypes, but for work that sees the region clearly, in all its complexity and imperfection. We welcome both emerging and established poets, and we encourage submissions that surprise us, unsettle us, move us, or make us look at something ordinary in an entirely new way. Above all, send us poems that feel necessary.

Poetry

Porchlight welcomes fiction that captures the complexity, contradictions, and distinctive character of the South. We are drawn to stories with a strong sense of place, memorable characters, and an honest eye for the beauty, hardship, humor, and darkness woven into everyday life. We welcome literary fiction that explores the region in all its forms, from rural communities and family histories to changing landscapes and lives that defy easy assumptions about what it means to be Southern. We are especially interested in work that feels lived-in and authentic, with a compelling voice and an emotional undercurrent that lingers after the final page. While Southern settings and sensibilities are central to our mission, we believe the best fiction reaches beyond geography to speak to the broader human experience. We welcome submissions from both emerging and established writers and encourage stories that take risks, challenge expectations, and offer readers something unexpected. Above all, send us fiction that has something to say and knows how to make us listen.
